illocutionary acts and other misdemeanors

I saw [livejournal.com profile] the_acrobat off yesterday morning, after a night of watching her pack, eating pizza, watching House and generally being silly. She got me a great T-shirt for my birthday in advance (which, by the way, is in TWO DAYS) and a copy of a wonderful pic of both of us, looking very academic. Still, it is GREAT SADNESS that she is now gone, though I'm hoping to visit her in July.

I've been trying to focus on my Old Icelandic paper now, but I'm having trouble. Speech act theory is really freakin' boring, and I'm not sure that Prof will buy my use of Butlerian performativity in conjunction with it as a way to explicate actions of female figures in the saga. Gah. This is my last paper, and I'm finding it really hard to care.

*sighs* Which means I'll probably be writing it on my birthday, yay. At least I can console myself with the several bottles of vodka my Dad sent me, along with shrimp, Zap's, Tabasco sauce and pecan candy.

Oh my God I understood this entire paragraph. Therefore if I didn't get an A in Intro to Gay, someone's gonna die.

*stares at paragraph* Oh god, I wrote that.

Intro to Gay! I know that's not what it's actually called, but it would be damn cool if it was. *g*

Introduction to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Studies. It's close enough.

Still sounds cool. What did you read for that, besides Butler?
