ekaterinn: (coffee is life)

We dress like students, we dress like housewives

My life is pretty decent right now. I've started subbing, and it's going pretty well. Actually, the worst day subbing high school (I haven't gotten to sub elementary yet because of my work schedule, but I'm going to try next week) is infinitely better than the best day teaching middle school. *g* I got called out in a teaching community on LJ because I didn't want to teach middle school, but, um, thank you very much, I know myself, and middle school is not my age level.

Other cool things: [livejournal.com profile] jinxed_wood made me this lovely icon (it's true!) and [livejournal.com profile] jcjoeyfreak gifted me with some paid LJ time! *beams at them both*

I'm also working on the drabbles I owe people - hopefully I'll have them posted by early next week. I'm enjoying my shows, particularly Torchwood, though I'm still horribly behind on SGA. However, I do have this fic idea...

Ekaterinn says:
Jobs Rodney McKay Would Be Crap At: 1) Yoga Instructor, 2) Sucide Hotline Operator, 3) Travel Agent, 4) Tech Support, 5) Buddhist Monk
Meredith says:
Haha...
Meredith says:
He'd be hilarious at the latter.
Ekaterinn says:
man, I might just have to write *that*
Ekaterinn says:
Rodney McKay shows you the way to enlightenment and freedom from worldly cares!
Meredith says:
Well, I think the reason it would be funny is because Rodney would have such a difficult time giving up worldly cares.
Ekaterinn says:
now I'm kind of picturing "what do we do with a problem like Rodney" scenario, where Rodney gets sent to help John out with something, I don't know
Ekaterinn says:
I know!
Ekaterinn says:
He'll be all like, hey, this cheeseburger is good, and is that the latest Ipod you have and ooh, soda!
Ekaterinn says:
He'll come through on the big things though
Meredith says:
Haha...
Meredith says:
Or John's this guru on the top of a mountain.
Ekaterinn says:
He makes his disciples run laps and do pushups!
Meredith says:
Yes.
Meredith says:
"This isn't Buddism, this is BOOT CAMP." - Rodney McKay.
Ekaterinn says:
Haha, awesome! *flails*
Ekaterinn says:
Now I'm picturing that quoted in a brochure for John's program: Rugged Buddhism!
Meredith says:
Rodney's being sent there because it's the last thing before he has to go off and find another faith.
Ekaterinn says:
also this exchange: John, with a smirk: "What's good for the body is good for the soul." Rodney, panting, "That's the complete opposite of Buddhism, you fraudulent moron!"

I am ashamed to admit this, but I have actually *read* the "how do you solve a problem like McKay" fic. Yes, you heard me -- someone actually wrote an epic SGA/The Sound of Music crossover. The Internet frightens me.

(Anonymous) 2008-02-15 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Now that you mention it, I have also read that fic.

[identity profile] ekaterinn.livejournal.com 2008-02-16 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
It shames me, but, yes, I have read that fic. It wasn't that badly written at all, but sometimes I feel that if you can think of a crossover, it will be written. AND THAT'S NOT ALWAYS A GOOD THING.

[identity profile] ohtori-akio.livejournal.com 2008-02-16 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know what about Atlantis inspires such random crossover and AU flights of fancy (it certainly isn't the quality of the show's writing or the depth of the characters presented on screen), but I really feel like something needs to be done about this.

[identity profile] ekaterinn.livejournal.com 2008-02-16 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
...but I really feel like something needs to be done about this.

You might be right! Though considering I have a whole SGA/RENT crossover planned out in my head (it involves John whoring himself with his ATA gene and Rodney's lover Carson dying and him locking himself into the lab he shares with Radek and crooning to himself over his science experiements and SHUT UP), I may not be that best person to spearhead such a movement.

[identity profile] ohtori-akio.livejournal.com 2008-02-16 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, then, obviously Ronon and Ford bring them together, though Ford ODs on enzyme partway through act 2 and dies a tragic death, which prompts Radek to sell out to Elizabeth for a source of steady income.

You know, I think it actually *is* the empty characters that make this practice so appealing. You can just plug the names into any pre-existing plot you want, and it sort of makes sense.

Hey. This is kind of weird, but you might want to call/email/ "Sparrow" did I get the name right? haha that was soo long ago! Anyway, yeah she's having a rough time and I thought you'd like to be informed. It's not the kind of thing I can really tell you myself, it's better coming from her and don't mention that I said you should talk to her.
I miss you! And I definetly want to see you next time I'm in town.

...Yeah, middle school was so not my thing either. And people who don't figure out their best teaching levels end up kind of burnt out from internal resistance, so pay the crazy internet people no mind.

Also, this: "That's the complete opposite of Buddhism, you fraudulent moron!" made me grin like an eedjit, because I could totally hear him hollering it as he followed John up the mountain XD

[identity profile] ekaterinn.livejournal.com 2008-02-16 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
In total agreement with you re:middle school. Oh, the internets people, how crazy you can be. *shakes head*

"That's the complete opposite of Buddhism, you fraudulent moron!" made me grin like an eedjit, because I could totally hear him hollering it as he followed John up the mountain XD

Yay, that mental image made my day! *grins at you*

Teaching middle school sounds like the absolute worst job in the world. to be honest, subbing doesn't sound much better, but I guess it depends on where you are. Glad that's working out for you for now.

[identity profile] ekaterinn.livejournal.com 2008-02-16 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm glad someone agree with me re:middle school! And subbing is fun for me because I'm racking up a lot of different experiences and if I have a bad class, I can leave at the end of the day and just make a note for the teacher. But it might depend on your personality too. ^_^

How is your teaching going? I know you've been having problems with your admin, but how about students?

[identity profile] eveningblue.livejournal.com 2008-02-16 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I am enjoying my students at the moment. But I had a good week this past week. Such is not always the case.

[identity profile] fanelia-angel.livejournal.com 2008-02-16 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Middle schoolers are minions of the devil. Stay faaaaaarr faaaaarr away because those bitches don't treat their teachers any better than they treat their peers. People spend their entire adolesence trying to get OUT of middle school so why the HELL would anyone go back??
*hugs*
I love you! Sorry for being weird before *^^*

[identity profile] ekaterinn.livejournal.com 2008-02-16 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Love you too! And also middle schoolers are evil. But I should get in touch with Sparrow anyway - does she have a new email addy? or phone number?
