in which no ducks are harmed

It's very like my family to be all in other parts of the house, reading/writing/messing about with Itunes. Family togetherness only get you so much. *g* I'm additionally on duck-cooking duty. Jeez, you cook one turkey without giving food-poisoning to anyone, and suddenly you're the expert meat-cooker in the family. In revenge, I'm going make them all watch A Colbert Christmas Special after dinner...I, um, might not be very good at vengeance.

That's weird--I cooked a duck today too! How did yours turn out?

I'm in the last 20-minute or so cooking stretch so I'll let you know after we eat! *g* My family's tradition is to have a duck with orange stuffing for Christmas day dinner, which makes much more sense than having another turkey, in my not-so-humble opinion. This is my first year making it though, and I'm freaking out slightly, 'cause I'll like to keep up my streak of not sending anyone to the hospital with my cooking.

How did yours turn out? Do you do anything special with the bird, or just roast it?

That sounds like a very nice tradition, and a nice goal (to not make anyone sick!).

Mine turned out fine. I followed Mark Bittman's recipe for roast duck; nothing special.

I'm glad yours turned out fine! Mine could've been a bit more juicy, but other than that, it was fine. I'm doomed to be the meat-cooker in my family now though. *g*

But there's an upside: my sister and I were arguing about who would have to bear the grandchildren and I pointed out if she would bear the grandkids, I could cook them!

...adoption? Then nobody has to cook anyone. I mean, unless you just want to, but I recommend keeping a spare around just in case.

Mmm, that might be a thought. But how would I get on Dr. Phil then?

(Hey, if you adopt, I'll totally babysit! Am trustworthy because am a teacher. *nodnod* Will not cook friend's children. Very annoying students are another story.)

Oh gods no. No children for me. You just can't *talk* to kids for such an inconveniently long period of time.

[identity profile] eveningblue.livejournal.com 2008-12-26 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
Ha! And also ick! Maybe you could just cook for them.

Oh, all right, if I must. *sulks* Don't think grandkids are happening anytime soon, in either case, though.
