[livejournal.com profile] the_acrobat posted Something Like Flying!

As she says, "This story is an alternate ending to a longer series that Ekat and I have been working on for some time in which John Sheppard is a shy librarian, and Rodney McKay, a flamboyant bookstore owner in Boston. It is 'canon' in this universe that John and Remus Lupin, the English subject librarian at the library where he works, were intrigued by one another but were both too reserved and caught up in their own issues to make a move. In this little story, we explore what could have happened if their friendship had ever moved beyond superficial coffeebreak banter."

I was privileged to work on this with her, through my contributions were generally just snippets of ideas in emails, while she did the heavy lifting of actually writing this - and very beautifully too. So, if you're a fan of either John Sheppard or Remus Lupin, go read!

I have decided that light reading before bed is *not* a luxury, but a necessity if I'm going to have any chance at all of sleeping that night. My reading tonight is going to be Persimmons Blackbridges's Sunnybrook, having just finished being charmed by her Prozac Highway. (I'm also reading Charles de Lint's Trader right now, but there's only so much I can take of his writing now before wanting to smack him).

[livejournal.com profile] adelynne tagged me a little while back to explain my username, and it came up in another conversation, so I guess I should. The name Ekaterinn is a reference to the character of Ekaterin in Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosiganverse novels - she's coolheaded, tough and has survived much to find happiness. As you can probably tell, I like her a lot. *g* However, when I got my hotmail account and wanted to use the name, there was already a ekaterin, so I added an extra 'n' and made the name my own. My full internet name is Ekaterinn Ciel Duval, which came out of a regency-style letter-writing game [livejournal.com profile] bejiin and I played years ago. (Her name was Bejiin Melanie Ripley, I believe). You can still find fic by me signed Ekaterinn Duval in an archive or two.

Finally, another meme, gacked from [livejournal.com profile] lynnmonster:

Comment to this post with a quote you like and:
1. I'll respond with something random about you.
2. I'll challenge you to try something.
3. I'll pick a color that I associate with you.
4. I'll tell you something I like about you.
5. I'll tell you my first/clearest memory of you.
6. I'll tell you what animal you remind me of.
7. I'll ask you something I've always wanted to ask you.
8. If I do this for you, you must post this on yours...obviously optional!

Is "comment" your quote? *g*

1. You introduced me to poutine and long Michigans. *g*
2. I like oatmeal raisin muffins. Why don't you try those?
3. Pink, because of your icon.
4. Your determination.
5. One of the clearest: That picnic in Vermont which was a lot of fun. *smiles*
6. A dragon, flying on flights of imagination and firing at silly people.
7. Um...I'm bad at this. Well, do you ever think of writing fiction professionally?

And...TAG!

I was fair as a summer's day
Now the summer days are through
You pass through places
And places pass through you
But you carry 'em with you
On the souls of your travellin' shoes

Hmmmm... how *did* I get into fandom?

I guess back when Buffy was airing, I talked about it with most of my RL friends, and we'd get together to watch it, and so we were kind of doing the fandom thing in miniature, and it was really fun. I found some sites online about the show, some of which mentioned or linked to fanfic, which was profoundly abysmal but strangely compelling nonetheless. Then I found Television Without Pity, and some actual *good* fic, and I never looked back!

I was curious about that extra "n." Ekaterina is a fairly popular version of "Katherine" in Russian, but I've never seen it transcribed another way. :)

Why do you want to smack Charles de Lint?

I'm unique. *g* Actually, the extra 'n' helps, since it usually means I have no problem getting the same username everywhere. I like having a cohesive net identity.

Why do you want to smack Charles de Lint?

Hmm, I have a hard time explaining this, even to myself. His tone in a lot of his works is just too...facile. It sometimes skirts this edge of condescending, and threatens to take the magic out of his fantasy. Also, he commits the same sin as some other writers do; writing gay characters, but only if they are of the opposite sex. I like his short stories a lot better, perhaps because they leave less room for me to get annoyed. Does that make any sense at all?

1. That image of you at La M's is still in my head. I think of it from time to time. There is something there and I'm not "done" with it. You sitting there with the sun catching the gold of your earring in a flash, the light forming a red halo with your hair, a flash of warm brilliance against a calm, relaxed background of green and shade and friendship.
2.Picture H as a young and helpless child cuddled in his mother's arms. Maybe three? Too old? Maybe six months.
3. Would it be wrong to say coffee? Actually kind of a coffee and caramel swirl before a deep green foundation.
4. Wow! Loyalty, creativity, determination, intelligence, your excellent taste in authors, your willingness to put up with me...
5.Sitting across the table at my mom's working problems and laughing. Composite, no doubt, but you know I have a horrible memory.
6. If I said cat, you'd be allergic to yourself. Ummm...Have to think about this one. Mammalian in all likelihood, vertebrate, no amoebas here, nor fungus...
7.Usually I just ask you. Me of the 200 questions. Oh wait! When will I get more Daniel and H?
8. I could try to post it I suppose...

randomly out of nowhere..

Is this available online anywhere? I'm intrigued and would love to read it if it is, but it's not on here list of fics and I can't see it on your website...sorry if it's somewhere hugely obvious and I'm just being a fool!
