To truly apperciate this, you will have to know that dintrophenol is an uncoupler that stops ATP synthesis but also effectively burns fatty acids:

In spite of warnings from the Stanford Scientists, some enterprising physicians started to adminster dinitrophenol to obese patients without proper precautions. The results were striking. Unfortunately in some cases the treatment eliminated not only the fat but also the patients, and several fatalities were reported in the Journal of the American Medical Association in 1929. This discouraged physicians for a while...

*snorts* we just discussed uncouplers in biochem...... eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeevil class! We were doing the PPP... now we're on to *blinks* damn.... we're still doing PPP and oxidative phosphorylation I think ^^;;
