Nov. 2nd, 2004 07:11 pmSo I voted today for the first time in a national election. I was of age for the presidential, election, but I didn't have my citizenship yet. (That election I stayed up late, doing some reading for class and watching states turn red and blue on the TV as results came in.) Next election I'll probably be in Canada, watching American politics from afar.
I've always had very ambivalent feelings about this country, but I've lived here half my life and there are things I love about this country - like my trip to Atlanta this weekend to see my sister and my best friend in Decatur, which has wonderful coffee shops and great people (which I still need to write about it in more detail!). And I have watched things get really scary here in the last few years and talked about it and protested.
I voted for Kerry today because I believe it's time for change, time for policy based on reality instead of prophecy and because I believe this election will matter to me whether or not I'm in the States next year. This is the same reason I voted on the local issues as well, because the very act of voting is important.
So I hope all of you eligible to vote did vote today. I hope that voting overall goes well and decisively. And I hope I'll wake up tomorrow feeling freer and safer.

Why yes, I have been reading Nero Wolfe mysteries. Why do you ask?
