I've arrived in Atlanta, safe and sound, and am now in the Cyber Cafe at Anges Scott, feeling myself slowly unwind. The weather is wonderful: warmish with a breeze. Perfect riding weather, but also good walking weather and sipping things in cafes weather - which is good, cause I'm unlikely to find any horses around here!

I was in the science center earlier today, waiting for [livejournal.com profile] bejiin to get of class, and as I was wandering around, peering in on all their pretty labs, I felt a flash of regret that I hadn't chosen to go to the next level in science. Genetics is just so neat and so filled with possibility - it's times like this that I forget that I hated spending so much time in the lab and that I detested writing scientific reports and just remember the coolness of it all.

But then I walked to Java Monkey and got myself a cup of their darkest roast, served in a colourful and slightly warped mug, obviously made by hand, and read for a while, flipping pages in the warm air. And after that, I got out my notebook and wrote a poem, and it just felt so good to be writing, to be dealing with language, that I knew I made the right choice. Literature and writing are my comforts, my inspirations, my challenges and my triumphs. In very real sense, they are part of what my heart calls home - and science, for all its coolness, cannot compare.
